The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has announced that it will prioritize youth and women by allocating a minimum of 50% of both elective and appointive positions to them.

This promise was made by the party’s National Secretary, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, during a recent event in Lagos where members of other political parties, including the PDP and Labour Party, defected to the ADC as he delivers a speech titled “When Good People Unite, Nigerians Win”.

Here are the key details of the ADC’s commitment to inclusion:

  • Constitutional Guarantee: Aregbesola stated that the ADC’s constitution guarantees strong representation for youth and women. The party’s policy specifically reserves 35% of positions for women and another 35% for youth, which collectively ensures a minimum of 50% inclusive representation.

  • A New Political Direction: Aregbesola described the ADC as “the party of the youth” and a collective of patriotic citizens dedicated to “rescuing Nigeria.” He argued that the country’s future depends on providing a voice, space, and power to the underrepresented, moving away from what he called the “dying political structures” of the APC and PDP.

  • Addressing National Challenges: The party leadership believes that this inclusive approach is a necessary response to the current hardship and uncertainty facing Nigeria. They assert that a government cannot succeed without prioritizing the welfare of its citizens, and that this new direction is a timely intervention to save the country.

ADC Lagos Chairman, Mr George Ashiru, presented the party’s flag, logo, and statement of purpose to Ogunkelu.

Ashiru outlined ADC as a credible alternative and urged members to unite like a military force preparing for victory.

The event was attended by ADC national leaders and South-West state chairmen.
