President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has publicly reaffirmed his commitment to preserving the legacy of his predecessor, the late President Muhammadu Buhari. The pledge was made during a solemn condolence visit to the Buhari family at their residence in Kaduna.

President Tinubu, who was received by the late leader’s widow, Aisha Buhari, and other family members, offered words of comfort and solidarity, assuring them that his administration would not abandon the values and principles that guided the former president.

“A loss in flesh is not a loss in the spirit,” President Tinubu said, reflecting on Buhari’s passing. “The spirit that he left with us is a spirit of hard work, dedication, patriotism, and honesty. We assure you and the entire family that we will continue with our leader’s legacy, the mark he made for Nigeria. We will continue on the path of honesty, integrity, and great character that he imbued in us.”

The President’s visit was part of a larger trip to Kaduna, where he was also a guest at a wedding ceremony. He was accompanied by a high-level delegation, including Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, and several governors and ministers.

In her response, Aisha Buhari expressed her deep gratitude to President Tinubu for his support during the family’s time of grief. She urged Nigerians to emulate her late husband’s virtues and called on President Tinubu to “carry on with my late husband’s legacy of honesty, integrity, tolerance, accountability, and justice.”

This public reaffirmation of commitment to Buhari’s legacy is seen as a strategic move to unite factions within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and to signal a continuity of policy, particularly in areas like infrastructure and the fight against corruption, which were hallmarks of the Buhari administration.
