KEBBI- Armed bandits have abducted the Deputy Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Alhaji Muhammad Sama’ila-Bagudo (also referred to as Samaila Bagudu), in a troubling incident that highlights the renewed surge of attacks and kidnappings in his hometown, Bagudo Local Government Area, Kebbi State.

Kebbi Police spokesperson CSP Nafiu Abubakar, who confirmed the incident in a statement, stated that armed bandits on Friday night stormed Bagudo town with sophisticated weapons and abducted the deputy speaker at gunpoint and whisked him away to an unknown destination.

The abduction occurred on Friday night, October 31, 2025, around 8:20 p.m.

Mr. Bagudo was seized by the armed men shortly after observing the Isha’i prayers and while on his way home from the mosque. Eyewitnesses reported the attackers were armed with sophisticated weapons and fired shots indiscriminately to cause panic.

Suspected armed bandits, also referred to as “Lakurawa terrorists” in some reports.

Both the Kebbi State Police Command and the State Government have confirmed the incident and have initiated a swift response.

The Kebbi State Police Command, through its Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafi’u Abubakar, confirmed the abduction in a statement on Saturday.

A combined team of police tactical units, military personnel, and local vigilantes has been immediately deployed to the area.

CSP Abubakar stated that the joint forces are currently combing the bandits’ routes and nearby forests to rescue the lawmaker unhurt and apprehend the perpetrators.

The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ahmed Idris, confirmed the information, assuring the public that the state government is “on top of the situation” and committed to securing the lawmaker’s safe release.

The Commissioner of Police, Bello Sani, urged residents to remain calm, law-abiding, and to provide any credible intelligence that could assist the security operations.

This high-profile abduction underscores the persistent security challenges posed by banditry and kidnapping for ransom, which continues to plague states across the North-West zone of Nigeria. The attackers have not yet publicly announced their demands.
