According to reports from Iranian state media and the judiciary’s official mouthpiece, Mizan Online, Iran claimed on Monday, September 29, 2025, that they executed a man identified as Bahman Choobi Asl, who they described as “one of the most important spies for Israel in Iran.”
The Iranian judiciary stated that Choobi Asl worked “closely” with Israel’s Mossad intelligence agency, met with agents during foreign trips, and had “privileged access to vital and sovereign databases” within the Iranian government. He was accused of providing information from sensitive national telecommunications projects.
Charges: He was convicted and sentenced to death on charges of “corruption on earth”.
This execution comes amid heightened tensions and a reported increase in executions for espionage following a direct conflict between Iran and Israel earlier in the year. Iran has been carrying out a wave of executions, which human rights groups have criticized, stating that due process and fair trial rights are frequently violated.

Israeli strikes kill dozens in Gaza City, hospitals say, as offensive expands
Iran and Israel fought a 12-day war in June after unprecedented Israeli air strikes on military, government and nuclear sites in the Islamic republic.
Iran’s claims of executing foreign spies are rarely confirmed or commented on by the intelligence agencies involved (such as Mossad), which typically adhere to a policy of official silence on such matters.
This action serves as a powerful message from Tehran directed at both domestic and international adversaries, particularly following the recent reimposition of UN sanctions.
The Israeli strikes in June killed senior officers, nuclear scientists and hundreds of other people, including civilians.
On August 9, the judiciary said it had opened an investigation into 20 people arrested for alleged links with Israel.
A few days earlier, Iran executed Roozbeh Vadi, accused of passing information about a nuclear scientist killed during the conflict.
