JERUSALEM – On Sept. 9, Israel shattered a sense of security for Hamas’ high command in Doha, delivering a bold, extraterritorial strike on leadership sites inside Qatar. The message was clear: The architects of the Oct. 7, 2023, genocidal assault on innocent Israelis have no place to hide — no matter where they run to.

A Strike That Broke Boundaries
In a move that has sent shockwaves across the Middle East and the international community, Israel has launched an airstrike on Hamas leaders meeting in Qatar’s capital, Doha. The Israeli government has stated that the strike sends a clear and decisive message that no haven, no matter how distant or secure, will protect those who orchestrate terror against the Israeli people.
Israel’s military conducted what officials described as a “precise strike” targeting senior Hamas leaders in Doha, Qatar, notably Khalil al-Hayya and Zaher Jabarin, deeply involved in ceasefire negotiations. “The IDF and ISA [Shin Bet] conducted a precise strike targeting the senior leadership of the Hamas terrorist organization,” a statement confirmed to Fox News Digital.
“Israel initiated it, Israel conducted it and Israel takes full responsibility,” Prime Minister Netanyahu’s office declared.
Blasts were reported across Doha’s Katara and Legtaifiya districts, including near a gas station adjacent to a guarded residential compound. Qatar condemned the attack as “cowardly” and a violation of international law.
The strike, which took place on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, targeted a residential building where key figures of Hamas’s political bureau were reportedly gathered. While Hamas claims that its senior leaders survived the attack, it has confirmed the deaths of several individuals, including a son of a senior Hamas leader and three of his bodyguards, as well as a Qatari security officer.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office released a statement asserting that the operation was “wholly independent” and that Israel takes “full responsibility.” The statement emphasized that the action was a direct response to the deadly shooting in Jerusalem on Monday, as well as the ongoing commitment to dismantle Hamas’s command structure following the October 7, 2023, attacks.
The operation, which the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reportedly dubbed “Operation Summit of Fire,” utilized precise munitions to minimize civilian casualties, according to the Israeli military. The IDF and the Israeli Security Agency (Shin Bet) stated that the targeted individuals were directly responsible for the October 7th massacre and the war against Israel.
The strike is a significant escalation of Israel’s military campaign, which has previously targeted Hamas leaders in Gaza, Syria, Lebanon, and Iran. By striking in Qatar—a country that is a major U.S. ally and has been a key mediator in ceasefire negotiations—Israel has demonstrated its willingness to extend its operations to sovereign nations in pursuit of its stated objective.
The international reaction has been swift and varied. Qatar has condemned the strike as a “cowardly assault” and a “blatant violation of its sovereignty.” The Qatari Prime Minister has called the attack “state terrorism” and questioned the future of the ceasefire talks.
The United States, while acknowledging that it had prior knowledge of the attack, has distanced itself from the operation, with the White House stating that it “does not advance Israel or America’s goals.”
