Initial reports and eyewitness accounts suggest that the driver’s intoxication combined with excessive speed led to a loss of control, resulting in the fatal collision.
According to official statements, local LASTMA officials responded swiftly and were able to apprehend the driver at the scene before he could attempt to flee. The damaged vehicle was subsequently towed for forensic examination by the police.
The Director-General of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, issued a strong condemnation of the reckless actions, stressing the need for stricter adherence to traffic laws and responsible driving.
