The Kwara State Government has officially confirmed the death of Musa Banawa, a notorious kidnap kingpin widely known as Maidawa, in a precise airstrike conducted by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF). The operation marks a major success in the ongoing campaign to dismantle criminal networks operating in the border forests of Kwara, Niger, and Kogi states.
Details of the Operation
The confirmation was issued on Wednesday by the state’s Commissioner for Communications, who praised the synergy between the military, security agencies, and the state government.
Targeted Attack: Maidawa and his gang were reportedly tracked to a camp in the dense forest that straddles the boundaries between the states, an area that has long served as a safe haven for bandits and kidnappers.
Intelligence-Driven: The success of the operation was attributed to sophisticated intelligence gathering and surveillance. Security sources indicated that the camp was neutralized following credible intelligence about the convergence of high-profile gang leaders planning future attacks.
Casualties: While the primary target was Maidawa, the airstrikes are confirmed to have eliminated several other members of his criminal syndicate who were responsible for coordinating numerous high-profile kidnappings, cattle rustling, and violence across North Central Nigeria.
